MTCP is a non-profit organization committed to informing tenants about the laws and ordinances that govern the landlord/tenant relationship. We provide information to tenants through our Resource Library and on-demand phone and internet counseling to residents of Washtenaw County and Battle Creek. Our part-time staff is comprised of committed tenant counselors and is supervised by an attorney. However, we can only provide information, not legal advice. MTCP - Washtenaw County is a project of Legal Services of South Central Michigan.

History
The Michigan Tenant Counseling Program - Washtenaw County formed in 2003. MTCP provides services similiar to those once provided under the auspices of the now defunct Ann Arbor Tenants Union.

The AATU was successful in advocating for increased tenant rights during its tenure from 1968 to 2003. An article by Ann Wilson published by the National Housing Institute, chronicles the history of the organization: Ann Arbor Tenants Union: Twenty-seven years of activism and service uniting a community. There are also also have a few case studies which profile the activities of the AATU:

Funding
The Michigan Tenant Counseling Program - Washtenaw County is funded by the City of Ann Arbor and Washtenaw County to promote decent, safe and affordable rental housing.
